The OWP Annual General Meeting 2012 will be held on Wednesday 25th April at the East Oxford Community Centre, Cowley Road, Oxford.
Starts at 7:30 and will last around 90 minutes. It’s an important meeting so if you want to get up to speed with the skatepark developments and maybe get involved with the project please come along…

OWP Meeting Wednesday 14th March

Hello Everyone,

The next OWP Meeting will be held on Wednesday 14th March at the East Oxford Community Centre at 7:30pm. We’ll be discussing the recent developments with Meadow Lane, eating Haribo and might even wrangle getting the bar open for some light refreshments.

The meetings usually last about 90 minutes and technically formal, but actually pretty relaxed. If you want to know what’s going on with the skatepark in Oxford this is the meeting you need to get along to.

Frys Hill Skatepark Proposals

Following the flattening of the Blackbird Leys Skatepark in Oxford to make way for a Co-Op, a replacement facility is being built. If you’re not too sure where Frys Hill is, check this map for the location . The budget is from Section 106 funding and totals 60 grand. The park isn’t going to be massive for that much money but it can potentially be very interesting and fun. The three companies invited to tender are Gravity Engineering, Bendcrete and Wheelscape.

Oxford City Council are providing this park, it’s not an Oxford Wheels Project facility as such. Rather sensibly however the Oxford City Council have asked OWP for input on the design and we are being used as a point of contact with the skate community.

Designs are below, all comments and feedback greatly appreciated. We’ll be organising a meeting to discuss the various parks so keep an ear peeled for the dates.

The Oxford Wheels Project is holding an event down at the Meadow Lane Ramp on Saturday 3rd September, Expect to find:

SKATEBOARDING – we’ve got amazing skaters coming down to compete in a fun competition for prizes they don’t need, but might be able to sell for fair bit.
GRAFFITI – there will be live graffiti going up around the site all day with some of the best artists from Oxford and beyond getting trollied on noxious fumes.
PIZZA – we’ve got a Mobile Woodfired Pizza Oven on site to provide you with traditional handmade pizzas while you watch people hurt themselves.
MUSIC – expect to hear some of the most shambolic DJ performances Oxford has to offer and there will be girly fighting over iPOD playlists.
SOCK WRESTLING – Watch grown idiots humiliate themselves as they try to remove their opponents socks. Two man enter – One man leave.

Ramp Jam – Saturday September 3rd 2011

Right everyone. Got a jam scheduled at the ramps for Saturday September 3rd. Still lots to finalise but here’s the rough idea…

All day jam 12-7 with music, skating, graffiti and food (working on getting a mobile wood-fired pizza oven down the park)
After that we’ll have some skate video screenings and a knees up at a near by venue (got an excellent new spot for the show)
Then all down the Cellar for a party of titanic proportions

All proceeds of the event will go the Oxford Wheels Project to keep people skating and riding.

Blackbird Leys Skatepark Consultation

Last year the old Blackbird Leys skatepark was flattened to make way for a some new developments.Oxford City Council are now working on relocating the skatepark on the estate and will be holding a public consultation on 15th June. Get your oar and have your say.

The Oxford Wheels Project will be meeting on Wednesday 6th April at 7:30pm in the bar at the East Oxford Community Centre, Cowley Road, Oxford.

There is news on the new skatepark, funding and forthcoming events at Meadow Lane. If you want to up to date on all the activity please come along to the meeting, everyone is welcome. Meetings usually last about 90 minutes, we’ll fill your guts with Haribo and there is a cheap bar to keep you amused.

Skate Park Consultation

Oxford Wheels Project will be holding a public consultation at the Meadow Lane Saktepark on Wednesday 28th July from 6pm – 8pm. We will be meeting with residents, councillors and interested parties to discuss the proposals for the improvements to the skatepark. If you would like to swing by and see what’s going on down at the Meadow Lane we would love to catch up with you and have chat.

So far OWP have been given a provisional nod from the Environment Agency to move into planning stages and before designs are drawn up and finalised we are taking the opportunity to run proposals past our neighbours.
